SNOO Smart Sleeper Review
I know so so many of you have been waiting for this post! I wanted to give the SNOO Smart Sleeper a full 3 months so that I could write an honest review for you guys! Thank you so much for being patient!
After “congratulations”, the second most common thing people say when they hear you have a new baby is “you must be so tired”, or “is she sleeping at all?” It is no secret that fresh babies need to be taught everything, even how to sleep. Meaning that as a parent you in turn get very little if not any sleep at all.
With my two boys it took months (probably like 7 or 8) for them to sleep fully through the night consistently. That made for some very dark circles under my eyes!! With them I read the book The Happiest Baby on the Block, if you are a parent I am sure you have either read it or have heard of it. It is written by Dr. Harvey Karp, who is the creator of the 5 S’s in smoothing techniques to help babies sleep. I loved his book, and the 5 S’s worked great for us!
When I heard that he helped create a Smart Sleeper, the SNOO I knew that we would of course need it for Nina! The SNOO Smart Sleeper is a bassinet that boosts your baby’s sleep, calms your baby’s crying, keeps your baby safer, and teaches your baby how to sleep through the night.
The bassinet itself keeps baby safe by it’s swaddle design. The swaddle clips into the bassinet and keeps baby on her back so she is unable to roll over during her sleep. I love these swaddles, they keep Nina’s arms down and she never breaks out of them.
The SNOO Smart Sleeper soothes Nina by gently rocking and swaying, while playing white noise at a low level. Both the rocking and white noise is suppose to mimic motion and sounds from the womb.
Once I get Nina all swaddled up, and clip the wings of the swaddle into the bassinet (it won’t start unless you do that-so safe!), the SNOO begins. The SNOO Smart Sleeper offer different levels of soothing. If Nina becomes fussy, it listens to her cry and adjusts both noise and movement until she is calm. After that it gradually lowers back to the lowest level. If for some reason she cannot be soothed, ex: hungry, the SNOO Smart Sleeper will try to calm her at the highest level for a total of two minutes, after that it will turn off. I actually really like that part, because sometimes babies just need to be soothed, and other times something is upsetting them like they need a fresh diaper, or a paci popped back in.
The SNOO Smart Sleeper can also be controlled via your smartphone. I love this! If she is over tried one night, and I know she will need more to be soothed, I will just bump it up a level (which isn’t much) via the SNOO app. The app also has a sleep log and keeps track of sleep patterns, total sleep, naps, and shows when and how much the SNOO soothed during a sleep cycle.
I was so excited about our SNOO Smart Sleeper that we brought it ALL the way with us to Utah when Nina was born because I wanted her in it day one!
In all honestly, she did not magically sleep through the first night and do 10 hour stretches from day one. Having a brand new baby made me extra nervous and I would jump up and pick her up out of the SNOO even if she did a snore because I never wanted her to get upset. That obviously backfired and then trained her to wake up a few times a night at the same time. Once we got her home to California (4 weeks later) and back into her nursery, and my nerves were gone-YES this was fantastic and worked amazing!
The SNOO sleep experts are so kind and helpful. I mentioned that I was having trouble with her sleeping because of acid reflux and they were more than happy tp schedule a call with me to brainstorm ways to help Nina feel comfortable and happy. They even have Leg Lifters to aid with babies that have acid reflux!
I am extremely happy to report that Nina is and has been sleeping a FULL 10 hours in her SNOO Smart Sleeper each and every single night! So good that she doesn’t even wake up once, or she never fusses in her sleep. She loves her SNOO, and we LOVE IT too! This sleeper has totally changed our lives and I feel like an actual human mom, rather than a zombie mommy! I have been asked so many times, and 100% YES the SNOO is so so so worth it! I would buy and use it again and again!
PS just saw that the SNOO Smart Sleeper is on sale for 25% off right now!
