I literally have been SO pumped to put together this newborn essentials post! I have always been way into baby gear, and all things baby, even when my kids were no longer “babies”. So many times my husband has made fun of me because I get really excited about baby products and just go crazy researching them (even when our youngest was 5).
When we found out Nina was entering our family, I already knew exactly what brand and items were rated highest on safety, and were mom favorites!
Today I am sharing what our newborn essentials and baby must haves are so far! I am sure as she grows and enters new stages we will be introduced to more fab products, and I will be sure to share those too. So stay tuned!
TOP NEWBORN ESSENTIALS
We just barely missed out on the whole DockATot thing with Finn. I think they started gaining popularity when he was a toddler. Now everyone has one! Literally, every single person I asked, forum I read, said a baby must have is a DockATot. I wondered what was so magical about this oval shaped pillow. NOW I KNOW, and I can echo that this newborn essentials is magical, amazing, and a must have! Why we love the DockATot:
It is a space where your baby can sleep or play without being buckled in
You can move it into your bed for safe co-sleeping
It is portable. You can move it around the house, or travel with it.
It provides a snug and soothing environment.
Nina sleeps every night in her DockaTot, I think she sleeps so well in it because she feels secure and snuggled up in it. We have the DockATote Deluxe+Dock La Vie En Rose, the Lighter Shade of Pale Cover, Black and White Toy Arch, and Cheeky Chums Toy Set.
Another newborn essential that helps Nina feel secure, and able to sleep more easily at night are these Nested Bean Zen Swaddles. These are special because of their lightly weighted pockets (kind bean bag-like) on the chest and sides of the swaddles. Which mimics the feel of your touch or hand being on baby. You can swaddle arms in or out with these. I have been going back and forth with arms in/out because I am not too sure what Nina prefers yet. What I DO know is that these Zen Swaddles work! The also come in a Bamboo fabric for warmer weather, and just your classic sleep sacks as well.
Let’s talk pacifiers, or in my house as we call them, nu-nus. If you are a parent or have babysat you know that there is nothing more annoying than getting your little one all comforted with their nu-nu and then in an instant it fly’s out of their mouth right onto the nasty sticky germ filled floor. The creators behind Doddle & Co are two genius moms! They designed a pacifier that is made from 100% silicon, and when it drops out of baby’s mouth, the nipple pops back into it’s own self-protective bubble! These have already been a life-saver, and will continue to be when we get to the stage of throwing and then immediate regret :)
I don’t know about you, but all I have heard about lately is this SnotSucker from Frida Baby. First reaction was ew, but then I thought back to those countless long nights of my little babies being SO congested and stuffed up. So hungry, but too snotty to close their mouth to eat. Babies can’t blow their own noses! And sitting in a steamy bathroom really doesn’t do much. This SnotSucker is actually an answer to prayers and a solution to those long nights with a sick baby! Plus, you don’t really suck snot up into your mouth. I got the WTF (What’s The Fuss) Baby Basics Kit and I already know I am going to use everything! For real where was Frida Baby when my boys where little?!
I can still recall the very first time I saw the 4moms mamaRoo. I walked past a children’s store and this futuristic thing was just turned on going right there in the store front window. I stopped, and stared. Didn’t even know much about it, but knew I needed it (even though at the time I didn’t have a baby ha). Fast forward to now, and the mamaRoo4 was top on my newborn essentials list! This thing is so awesome. It has five unique motions that stimulate real life movements to smooth your babe, different speeds, a built in sound machine, and you’re able to control it from your phone! Nina’s favorite motions are: wave, and tree swing. It is so nice to be able to control it from my phone. I could be in the middle of cooking, look over at her, and adjust the mamaRoo it real quick from the app! We have used this a ton so far, and I can see why so many people love it.
I never wished my blog had a scratch and sniff more than right this very second! They one and only shampoo and lotion I have ever used on Nina has been Noodle & Boo. Not only does it smell like pure newborn baby heaven goodness, but all of their products hypo-allergenic, and they are specially made for newborn/baby skin. I am also loving their wipes. They are soft, alcohol free, and gentle. I was just doing some research on curly hair, and am going to try out their Conditioning Hair Polish for Nina.
Forever grateful we found these Comotomo Baby Bottles, because little lady was picky and would not lack to anything BUT these! Not only are these bottles must “breast like” but they also are great for so many reasons! Here is why we love them:
The nipple is designed for an easy latch
It is made of silicon for a soft and squeezey feel
Easy to clean! They are wide so no need for bottle brushes or missed spots, also dishwasher safe
Prevents Colic with dual air vents
We have both sizes of Comotomo bottles, and love them! We don’t plan on switching to any other bottles
When looking into baby cameras and monitors I wanted one with all the bells and whistles! Enter the Nanit. The Nanit Sleep System helps you track, monitor, and improve your baby’s sleep. The camera’s technology learns your baby’s movements and can tell if they are asleep, fussy, awake, or sleeping. You are able to stream real time footage and sounds right to your phone, as well as analaytics that help you better understand your baby’s sleep, and way to improve. Because life is on the go, there is also the multi stand option (pictured above) that you can take anywhere away from baby’s crib.
I am always super picky about what products, and soaps touch my babies. They are fresh and so sensitive. Thankfully I discovered Dapple Baby products. I have been especially using and loving their Bottle & Dishes soap when cleaning Nina’s bottles, as well as the Hands and Face Wipes. Each product is made with plant-based ingredients, and are made without parabens, or synthetic fragrances. It is the safer and much better choice to washes her nu-nu’s and bottles than the stuff I regularly use to scrub pots and pans.
A lot of outfits you have seen this sweet girl in have been this ultra buttery soft baby gowns from Cozys. I love them SO MUCH. They only downside is that these gowns and jammies do not come in my size. The gowns are perfect for the newborn stage when you are up in the middle of the night changing a diaper-because no zippers, and no snaps! I also love the jammie sets and have ordered basically all of them for Nina.
Skiphop has always been a brand I have trusted. With my boys, I found that having a bouncer that could vibrate was essential! It always seemed to help soothe them when they were gassy or fussy. We really love this Uplift Multi-Level Baby Bouncer from them. It vibrates, has two lullaby songs, and two white noise options as well. What I really have found convenient is the height adjustment on it. You are able to adjust and elevate the height of this bouncer! So when we are eating dinner and I need a free hand, I make it higher so Nina can join us at the table and we can both keep an eye on one another.
Finally able to buy up all of the cute Freshly Picked Moccs! These are soft and comfortable for baby, and they stay on their feet so much better than any other shoe I have tried. This is her cute collection so far, but it is already growing!
I was never a baby wearer before. But I think that is because I didn’t have a good quality baby carrier. I am really impressed with this Tula Baby Free To Grow Carrier. It fits babies 7–45lbs, it doesn’t need a bulky infant insert, has a removable hood to support baby’s head, and is made with breathable and lightweight fabric. I have already used it so many times with her, it is a total lifesaver and feels way more comfortable and secure than any other carriers I have tried.
Hope you enjoyed my Baby Must Haves and Newborn Essentials so far!
Is there something I need that I don’t have? Let me know! I would love to hear about your favorite newborn essentials too!
