Top 5 Bar Specials Near Temple University

The HAGTAP Edition

Temple students go hard until they need to go home. On the weekends, you’re either A) getting drunk at a frat party, B) playing drinking games with friends in your dorm room, or C) hitting up the bars. At a certain point in your college career, going to the bars becomes the more popular thing to do. Here’s a list of five bars every Temple U student needs to check out before graduating.

Master’s Bar, 1535 N Carlisle St

Master’s is a popular spot for Temple students because of its proximity to campus. Other than that, this bar is a little too pricey for a college bar. So make sure you take advantage of its specials — our personal favorite is “Fired Up Wednesdays” for $3 Fireball shots and $2 Yuenglings! This bar also features plenty of TVs where you and your buddies can watch your favorite sports game.

Draught Horse, 1431 Cecil B. Moore Ave

Every Temple U student needs to visit this place at least once. This place is the definition of a great college bar — located near campus, cheap drinks and food, and a young lively crowd. This bar gets extremely packed whether it’s the weekend or not. We suggest coming on Wild Wednesday Night — treat yourself to awesome DJs and drink specials including $1 Bud Light Cans.

Center City

Tavern on Broad, 200 S Broad St

Tavern on Broad never gets too crowded — so if you’re looking for a bar where you can chill and relax, then definitely check out this spot. Come for happy hour during the week to enjoy 1/2 priced drinks while catching up with friends after class.

Howl at the Moon, 258 S 15th St

Howl at the Moon features dual pianos and live music. What’s great about this place is that you can request specific songs to be played on the spot. This bar is super fun for boozing with friends. Stop by this summer and take advantage of this deal ending Sept 2: Wednesdays 5–7pm → $5 cocktails, $4 wine, $3 beer and 1/2 priced appetizers.

McGillin’s, 1310 Drury St

McGillin’s is the oldest continually operating pub in the city. When you step into this bar, you immediately feel welcomed. This explains why it’s a favorite neighborhood bar for many, in addition to great food, drinks and service. Come here to karaoke with friends or on Mondays for great specials ($4 Jagermeister shots, $3 SoCo Lime shots and $2 PBR pints).
