22. Nothing is forever.

I used to think that there were only two kinds of days: The bad and the good.

I used to think that happiness was a goal, a set place in my life, that, with enough positive vibes and kind acts, I would be able to achieve.

I used to think that pain, however bad it is, is temporary, and should therefore not be avoided, but pushed through.

I was wrong.

It’s not pain that is temporary. It’s all emotions, as a whole, not just limited to pain itself. Joy, excitement, anger, despair, humiliation, rejection. Nothing lasts forever.

There’s no such thing as a good day or bad day; all days are ambivalent, a pinch of pride here, a sprinkle of failure there. Never is a day entirely happy or entirely sad.

Happiness is not a set place; it’s a feeling that will come and go. No matter how hard you try to keep it and maintain it, it’s inevitable that at a certain point, it’ll slip right through your hands.

Nothing is forever, and everything is temporary.
