I’m not sure Thomas, but since you sent me scrambling for the French-English translator and a bio of monsieur Maupassant my interest is now piqued and I shall have to read “Boule de Suif”, considered to be his finest short story. Though the exact english translations of “ball of fat” I would not declare it “Le mot Juste”. I rather prefer butterball or dumpling.
