Trust

Finneas and Me- LLAP

I bet you were
an eager puppy

always pulling at
your mama’s teat

nuzzling past your mates
gangly and needy

the memory of milk fresh
watching you lying here

by my chair, I know
you dream of it still
I hear you making soft

suckling noises in your sleep
feet twitching,
pink lips quivering —

this feels like trust

your vulnerability exposed
outside your pack, yet safe

so near another
not of your kind
but we have a pact, now

you and me.
