These are the adventures of ‘Marco’ the mouse.
Marco lived in his house in the base of an old oak tree on the edge of the magical mystical woods.
Marco was the friendliest creature in the entire Kingdom, he was blessed with many incredible friends who make up his many adventures.
Meeting Simon
Marco woke in his rather grand bed made from part of an egg box and filled with a moss and aromatic lavender down. His eyes blinking at the bright beam of sunlight bursting through his kitchen window. He jumped up and readied himself for a shower. Not any normal shower but one he built himself with strings, a couple of tyreless wheels, some acorn shells and a small watering can. The water came from a bucket and some pipes and the rain water it used was freezing cold. Marco positioned himself, gripped the cord, closed his eyes and pulled, “arghhhhh’ it’s fr fr freezing! ” he squeaked. Quickly he washed and dried and sat next to his wood burning stove to warm himself.
Next breakfast, and today it was going to be very special, wild strawberries and mint flowers with crispy ears of corn, roasted gently over the hot plate. He ate every last morsel, drank his fresh nettle tea and thought about the day to come.
All days started by planning to collect food, Marco loved his food and loved searching for tasty treasures like wild berries, grain, fruit like crab apples, tasty flowers and buds and okay some not so tasty but much needed protein like worms or grubs. He had tried the no meat route but became weaker and had less energy so for now his search included all the above.
Marco put on his little yellow jacket and tweed scarf, prepared his tiny cart and ventured out into the fields surrounding the magical mystical woods. He was looking for mushrooms that were common at this time of year yet were being difficult to find today. Marco had looked in all of his special places and found none. There was one more place to try, a long walk but worth it he hoped and set off at a brisk pace.
Marco had no idea of what danger he was going towards, the mushrooms were all gone because they had been picked already and worse still by very big noisy giants that towered into the sky and often left terrible destruction behind them but not always. On this occasion there were 4 giants, 2 as tall as trees and 2 mini giants that never stopped running and shouting. Marco had no idea as he came around the corner of the field that one of the mini giants had changed direction and was rushing headlong in his direction, he had no chance to get out of the way, all he saw was a huge boot crashing downwards toward him, he knew this was to be his end, then just as the moment was about to happen Marco felt a strong tug on the collar of his yellow jacket, he was lifted off his feet and seemed to be flying, he was only in the air for a very short time and then was lowered gently to the floor. He was both terrified and confused.
As Marco regained his senses he looked around to see what had happened but could see nothing. He rolled over and sat up, still nothing and then in a flash a bird appeared, “Hello!” it said “Are you okay?” Still very confused Marco said “Yes thanks to you I think, who are you?” he said “My name is Simon and I am a sparrow and might I ask who I just saved? ” Marco still dazed said “Ma.” “Oh okay Ma it is.” said Simon. “No no my name is Marco, and I am a,” “Mouse!” shouted Simon. “Yes.”said Marco, “How will I ever repay you, you saved my life, would you let me invite you to my home and let me cook you dinner?” Simon smiled and agreed but said “You don’t have to repay me, I am sure you would have done the same for me.” They both nodded, Marco put back into his cart the few mushrooms he had managed to collect and the new friends set off to not just Marcos house but to a wonderful new friendship.
