The Maharaja is a stunning boutique restaurant inspired by the beauty of India and its diverse landscape of spices and flavors. The concept behind this restaurant promises a culinary journey from the glorious palaces in India along with a menu that features dishes from four different regions.

This breathtaking restaurant is located in a century-old heritage building that was formerly “The Mad Hatter” along the Heritage Hills Boulevard and Eglinton Avenue.

The restaurant is completely gutted and pays attention to minute details such as a tour and description of the restaurant given to you by the host, coat checking service, a tray containing mild refreshments as well as a bowl of lemon water so that you can cleanse your hands. All these little things help in enhancing your fine dining experience.

This ornately and intimate designed restaurant takes you on board a tour of three of India’s gorgeous palaces starting with Hawa Mahal which is known as Palace of the Wind and is located in Jaipur. This palace is on the right of the restraint and is elevated, bright and very airy.

Then comes the Palace of Mirrors also called Sheesh Mahal which is located in Pakistan; this is the largest rooms and is situated in the back of the restaurant ornamented with delicate mirror walls and chandeliers.

Lastly is the Rang Mahal or Palace of Color that is originally located in Delhi but is the left room in this restaurant. This palace represents the culture of India along with gorgeous colors.

With the help of a local Mississauga artist, the walls of this restaurant were ornamented with original Indian art, and each section of The Maharaja contains numerous wall art. Behind some of the large frames of delicate artwork, you’ll find big screen TV’s added there in case of any popular game or show.

The Maharaja Restaurant Concept

The entire concept of this restaurant was created by a family experience with supervising and consulting hotels in the Middle East and India. Jehangir Khan, his wife Sheryl Serrao and his father Kekky Khan decided to create this restaurant in order to fill a missing void in Mississauga.

The food in this beautiful and elegantly designed royal restaurant is divided into four regional cuisines; all found in India. These four cuisines have been influenced by different flavors and ingredients from various countries including Greece, West, Persia and Central Asia. You can also choose from traditional Indian cuisines such as Hyderabadi, Punjabi, Awadhi or Rajputana cuisine; whatever suits you best.

The executive chef present in this restaurant, Praveen Chilkuri has 22 years of experience in cooks and is trained under renowned chefs in India. Chef Chilkuri is also a culinary instructor in Humber College.
