It’s kind of weird how nobody cares about the movie “Avatar”

Remember this classic scene?

Eight years ago, director James Cameron introduced the world to his technically ambitious epic about blue jungle aliens going to battle against The Man. Avatar quickly became the top grossing film of all time. (It has since been eclipsed by Avengers: End Game, but still bests the third-biggest film of all time: Cameron’s 1997 bye-bye-boaty epic, Titanic by more than a half-billion.)

Intellectually, I can comprehend the fact that Avatar is one of the biggest money-makers of all time, but it sure doesn’t feel true. Despite crushing all box office records, the film never generated a fan-cult similar to ones built around every other BIG sci-fi action franchise. In fact, Avatar’s cultural footprint is so remarkably light that it’s easy to forget the movie existed, let alone went on to gross a record $2.784 billion in ticket sales.

Seriously, Unobtanium?

Movies are intertwined with our thoughts, dreams, and even life decisions. Think about how much time you’ve invested contemplating the plights of fictional movie characters, quoting favorite lines to friends, or perhaps occasionally even daydreaming that you were in your favorite flick!

Now think: Have you ever found yourself thinking about a scene from Avatar in the middle of the day? I sure haven’t. And…
