Falling Out of Love

A Poem

Source

You were my cup of coffee (with cream)

My scalding hot shower

But I broke the heater

And the milk went sour

Today I opened the book you gave me

It no longer hurt to remember that night

Whiskey&cokesandbarnes&nobleandcoffee&icecream

I loved you more than all those things

I was a maze of dark tunnels that gulped you through

You got lost in deep reefs of my past

You couldn’t see my clear blue

So you surfaced, nearly drowned and gasping

The pieces of you left behind

Your paints, your clothes, that frame

Make me feel nothing but grateful

I didn’t know then, I need to love myself the same
