Beyond The Trigger

The wind wisps my hair

My sight being sheltered

What is and isn’t fair

Is past the point of being heard

I turn to my captive

She met my eyes

She wasn’t disruptive

But the emotions in her gaze

Is something I can not faze

I looked in my hand

And there it sat

This wasn’t how it was planned

Yet here I am

I once upon a time loved her deeply

She was my best friend, my family

She was good to me, never lied

But in the end it was her life or mine

I watched her eyes stare steadily

I matched her stare heavily

Tears rolled down our face

Time was not to waste

Raising my hand, I’m aiming

The sweet spot found, I’m palpitating

Taking my last breath, I’m trembling

Pulling the trigger, my heart breaking
