whereas feedback to women was vague
The Real Reason Women Quit Tech (and How to Address It)

Former manager at a previous company I interned with would only ever say, “You need to increase your code quality,” but would never tell me what he meant by that, even if I asked for examples of where I could improve. Never offered to pair program, nor did he ever point out places where I could have written something more to his liking. He would just say, “This is bad,” and that would be the end of it; and I’d just have to keep starting over and bringing it back to him until he’d OK the changes. Towards the end of my time there, I had a couple of people who actually cared about my development give me constructive feedback, and I ended up improving a lot in that short remaining time, and got a lot of code merged through their reviews. But, needless to say, my manager was unconvinced that I was cut-out to be there. Pretty sure he decided that from the beginning though.
