Have you ever held onto something so tight
You couldn’t tell were it ended and you began?

Like a thought,
Or a feeling,
Or a person drowning in both?

Have you ever fallen so suddenly
That you forgot to catch your breath?

Like when you tripped over words
Trying to describe
The way your heart moved
When they looked into your eyes.

I remember once being so hungry
I was almost too afraid to eat.

Scared by the thought
That every taste would dull me to the next,
Until I reached a point where I’d almost dread
Needing to take another bite.

A mistake we often make
Is believing that the pain we feel
When we want something so badly
Is what love really means.

But starving shouldn’t be our goal.
Eating is the means to an end.

When I’m with you,
I want to feel full.
