The Power of Beauty

Beauty is power. It has the ability to make people feel a plethora of different emotions depending on how one presents it. People who have it can intimidate, overwhelm, arouse, frustrate, make hearts stop, get knees weak, and invite exceeding amounts of empathy. It’s powerful because people with conventional beauty is rare. Someone who is mathematically beautiful isn’t always charming: the only missing trait that impedes one who has stunning facial proportions from having the power of beauty. And obviously, a charmer isn’t always conventionally beautiful.

I am writing this entry not to present my analysis on classical beauty without charms vs. an average-looking smooth talker. This is a case study on Nico Tortorella and how powerful his beauty is. His beauty intimidates me. Obviously, I’ve never met him in person, but just by watching his interviews on Youtube I am certain that I would be devoid of my ability to speak when I meet him; maybe I’ll even tear up. His beauty makes my heart stop. He’s handsome, fit, neat, but also quite an enfant terrible. His beauty frustrates me. As an unattractive single gaysian with self-esteem and daddy issues, the easiest way to break my heart is to be an attractive, friendly, and smart non-heterosexual man who doesn’t even know I exist. On top of all that, he’s a married celebrity who lives on the other side of Earth. I’m deeply infatuated, and I’ll do anything for him. I’ll be anything for him. Until a crazy astrological occurrence allows us to cross paths and (impossibly) possibly hit it off, I’ll cry for his character Josh in the TV series Younger, and cross my fingers that one day, before it’s too late, I’ll be beautiful too, powerful enough to meet him and have the same chance as the people he’s in love with.
