The next big healthcare innovation won’t be a miracle drug.

And this leads us to a question that we’ll close out the story with … would you be comfortable with having your biometric data available to the public?

It’s not so much having my biometric data available to the public that I worry about, it’s having it available to insurers. Without a significant change in the way health care is paid for and / or made available here in the US, this sort of data is just another way of denying the poor and the unhealthy access to healthcare.

And don’t get me started on what happens when this data inevitably gets into the hands of advertisers… Big Data: it’s mostly about advertising and its kid brother and main tool, surveillance (corporate or otherwise).
