If this is all the Urban Dictionary has for “wonky,” its editors should be ashamed.

Absolutely Wonkers

You probably need a better dictionary — I’ve heard it used both ways. In fact, it wasn’t until fairly recently that I’d heard it used in the sense you (Steven Levy) are using it — it still mostly has the Urban Dictionary meaning for me, at least (and my 1990’s era Concise OED only has the meaning “crooked, askew, unsteady, faulty” for the word).

I’m guessing that not knowing the other meanings of “wonky” could be a sign of wonkiness, one way or another.
