Three Factors Which May Help You Make THAT Decision

When I say THAT decision, I’m not talking about whether you should marry someone or not — sorry but no amount of factors or tricks can help you know that for sure.

No, I’m talking about the decision to take a job offer or not.

I’ve tried this little rule out myself a couple of times and it could help you decide the next time you’re contemplating signing that offer letter.

Consider each of the following three factors with regards to the prospective job.

  1. Job Description. Will you wake up every day feeling excited about the work you will be doing? Or will the Candy Crush Saga become your favourite workplace past-time?
  2. The Remuneration. Unless you’re sitting pretty at the top of Maslow’s Pyramid, this factor is often a very important and popular reason why people switch jobs.
  3. The Location. Some people like working in big cities while others prefer the serenity of smaller towns. Though I’m sure there’s hardly anyone anywhere who enjoys a 70-minute commute to work.

Here’s the rule: generally speaking, if two of the three factors seem to favour you, then you should accept the job offer.

Of course there are always exceptions to this. Fresh graduates looking to start off somewhere or people looking for jobs in a new country might give more preference to remuneration perhaps and in their case, only one of the three factors in their favour might sway their decision.

“Oh, you hate your job? Why didn’t you say so?
There’s a support group for that. It’s called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.” — Drew Carey

Well, I guess some things about a regular work-for-someone-else job will never change. Have a great week ahead!
