Artist of the year Najmah53

The board @blackpoetslive has voted Najmah53 our artist of the year. She is a nationally recognized teaching artist extraordinaire, her poems take the viewer on a historical mission to find psychological wellness, a type of therapeutic Sankofa, hoping to resurrect an esprit de corps and the rehabilitation of the African American soul and psyche. While addressing the ills of systematic racism and police brutality in American history-to the backdrop of Brooklyn’s murals and street art, paying homage to black leaders and victims.
