In-person Drop — A Great Experience
By HaMza JaVed

Dropping or submitting your resume online is more common and convenient way for hiring now a days and almost all the organizations prefer online submission. This thing make the hiring process more easier and align. A part of this, dropping of your resume and cover letter in-person can add more value to your submission. It can show your passion, loyalty, commitment to that organization. Some organizations strictly don’t allow in-person drop so in that case, don’t jeopardize your chance of selection by doing that. But almost all multinational organization really appreciate the effort except some government sectors.
So for experiencing this, I also decided to drop my resume and cover letter in-person and I Planned to go Lyallpur Fertilizers, a firm situated in Faisalabad. Before in-person drop, I customized my resume and cover letter according to the organization and did some research about the company. I also designed my elevator pitch according to the information I gather about the firm during the web-surfing. So next day, I went to the firm and to be honest, I was little worried for what’s going on. At the entrance, the guards asked me about the visit and I told them that I wanted to meet HR officer Mr. Tahir Shafiq to drop my resume so they let me in.
After waiting about 15 minutes at reception, they called me. Mr. Tahir warmly welcomed me and offered me some drink due to hot day and I accepted the offer immediately because this things gave me more time to interact with that person. So I simply started to introduce myself but I observed that It’s not the right time to tell my elevator pitch so I just told him my name and what I was doing and where I lived. After that, they asked me the reason of meeting so I somehow managed the situation by telling him that I am looking for and internship and I was here to drop my resume and cover letter. He apologized me by saying that we closed the hiring for internship and I was a bit late. I knew that fact but I act like I didn’t know. After that, he started reading my resume and cover letter because my drink was not finished and I had to stay there. After reading , he was really surprised that I put an effort to customize and connect myself to the company background. That was the right time for my elevator pitch so I started my pitch and He could feel I was really passionate about that organization. Although all the seats were filled but he offered my to apply next time and he would effeminately have a look on my application. I asked him for his E-mail to apply and he happily gave me that.
So the experience was pretty awesome. I was little confused how to promote the talk while he said to me that applications were closed. Fortunately, the drink offer created a cause to stay but we should prepare for every possible happening. At the end, He offered me to apply and that was enough for me .
This thing prove that hard work always pays off. We will always get something at the end. So don’t hesitate and come out from your comfort zone. Take risks and eliminate the work or failure from your mind.
Either you will win or learn, but you’ll never loose.
