Retired NBA legend Michael Jordan has finally found a buyer for his Highland Park mansion after being on the market for over a decade, according to a report by Crain’s Chicago Business. The expansive property, listed at $14.855 million, has seen numerous price changes since first being put up for sale in the early 2010s.

Jordan initially sought $29 million for the contemporary-style home in 2012, but the price was progressively reduced to its current tag. The 8.4-acre estate failed to attract buyers even after an auction in late 2013 with a reserve price of $13 million. At that time, “no buyer anywhere was willing to pay $13 million for it,” according to Chicago Tribune.

The mansion, custom-built in the 1990s during Jordan’s marriage to Juanita Vanoy Jordan, is famed for its lavish features. It boasts 15 full bathrooms, four half bathrooms, a regulation-sized basketball gymnasium, a circular infinity pool, and a cigar room. “We actually have quite a bit of buyer interest in it right now,” the property’s listing agent, Katherine Malkin, told Elite Street in 2022, though no deal went through at the time.

High-end amenities and tax implications

Even with a potential buyer in the wings, the exact details and final sale price remain undisclosed. The Lake County Assessor’s records differ from the listing agent’s, placing the mansion’s size at 32,683 square feet, compared to Malkin’s estimation of 56,000 square feet. Additionally, anyone acquiring the property can anticipate a hefty property tax bill. The 2023 tax year recorded a $137,208 levy, suggesting future taxes could climb significantly if the sale price is around $10 million.

Aside from this mansion, Jordan’s real estate portfolio remains robust. He owns a five-bedroom, 9,100-square-foot home in Jupiter, FL., a 26,299-square-foot mansion also in Jupiter, and multiple properties in North Carolina. His impressive holdings continue to reflect his success both on and off the court.
