Whether we know it or not or even willing admit to it, we ALL have an addiction or multiple addictions in our life. Not to say that it’s a good or bad thing since the term “addiction” can be referred to either way. Take for example a person who’s not that quote on quote “Morning Person”. What’s the first thing on their mind when they wake up? COFFEE!!!!! Safe to say they’re addicted in that case right. Definitely not a bad thing, I mean it’s not like they’re waking up and sniffing lines (no offense to those who do).

Needless to say I can admit I have both good and bad addictions in my life. For the ones that are considered bad that I’m trying to overcome, I see others in completely worst scenarios than myself and am completely grateful I haven’t gotten to that point. Let me show a few of my addictions and you can decide whether they’re good or bad:

BEER

Almost every night I consume 2–3 beers before bed. My way after a long day of long hours at work and running errands my way to unwind for the day. On a good note, I don’t drink & drive hence NEVER gotten a DUI. Very rarely drink hard liquor, which is typically only in Las Vegas. For those who know Vegas, drinking is inevitable and can do so legally while walking up and down the strip. Although I’ve drastically slowed down over the years, none the less I still consume alcohol almost on a daily basis.

SLOTS

Speaking of Las Vegas, I love playing slots. Whether Las Vegas itself or here locally on the Indian Reserve I never need a reason to go. But I’m smart about it meaning I haven’t maxed out credit cards, taken out loans to gamble, or worked millions of hrs. of overtime just to play. I put money aside in savings, make sure my bills are paid first, of course have food for the week. Most important the wife and kids are taken care of just in case I lose the money in my pocket, then it’s off I go!!! Consider this like a beer before bed, just another way to unwind.

OVERTIME PAY

So there’s no misconception because I’m known for that guy who does put in a TON of hours at work and at times is rarely around. That doesn’t necessarily mean I’m addicted to work, BUT I’ll admit to being addicted to the pay. Don’t get me wrong no matter what the situation is, or how tired I get, the work always gets done without any complaints. For me overtime is well worth it since going in on my day off means I get to carpool with the wife & and I’m getting paid.

CUP OF COFFEE

Whether hungover in Vegas or getting up for work (even for overtime) I NEED that cup of coffee. Yes I’m heavily addicted to it. I’m so addicted that although the picture is a representation of the morning, I can have coffee pretty much any time of the day. I’ll even admit to once I hear that alarm clock, I’m walking out of my room with my eyes half open just guide me to the kitchen so I can power on my Keurig. YES I’m that kind of person without my morning cup of coffee I’m a huge mess.

I realize that not everybody drinks coffee or beer, sits down at slot machine, or never thinks twice to work more than their 40 hrs. in a week. So is it bad that I do ANY of these things? Would you consider any of these items good if I said that every one of these addictions I’ve listed was how I grew up, what I thought was actually “OK” to do?

What are your addictions???

Please feel free to comment as I’m open to any/all suggestions.
