Sights in Marshall, TX

Marshall is a charming east Texas town. It is known by many names, including the Cultural Capital of Texas, Gateway to Texas, and Center Stage. The town was founded in 1841. When the town was first established, many stage coach lines and railways ran through the town making it a center of activity. The town has a rich past, and you can learn a lot about Marshall’s past through it’s attempts to preserve its past through museums. Marshall has many attractions that draw people’s interests.

MUSEUMS

Marshall has two museums called Michelson Museum of Art and Harrison County Historical Museum. Through these museums, you can take a step back into the past. The Harrison County historical Museum has several exhibits of the civil rights movement in Harrison County, agricultural tools, and several other items related to the county’s history. The museum of art has exhibitions called the MAXAM collection, American Watercolor Society, and more! This is a great museum to see stunning art work.

EVENTS

Several events take place in Marshall through out the year. Marshall hosts The New Year, New You Health Fest in January, FireAnt festival in October, Second Saturday event in March, and the infamous Wonderland of Lights Festival in December, in which every citizen in Marshall participates. The whole town is lit in celebration of Christmas. No matter when you visit Marshall, there is always something happening!

SHOPPING & DINING

Shops and restaurants dot Marshall’s square. There are unique shops ranging form antiques to pottery! Several boutiques also offer a great shopping experience. Marshall has a variety of tastes. Some of the best restaurants are located in the town. A favorite is the Blue Frog Grill, their homemade macaroni and cheese is worth the trip!
