Credibility of Internet Material

It is often difficult to find credible resources on the World Wide Web (WWW) because there are millions of articles circulating on the internet every day. I learned that even though search engines rank websites, it does not guarantee that the information is relevant. Furthermore, in order to find a credible source, one needs to conduct some background investigation on the author, subject material, et. cetera.

One important thing to remember when searching for sources is to make sure that the information/news that it links to is current. The news is always updating and changing so it is important “to keep an eye out.” Moreover, the article does not specify, but I believe that a source has to be 5 years or younger in order to be considered credible.

Next, I learned that one has to be wary of biased authors. The article said that being biased is not always a bad thing, but one should be cautious because many people like to use websites to promote their personal views. A biased article should not be cited when looking for objectivity.

Also, it is important to check an author’s credibility/ authority on the topic that they are discussing. One should look for the author’s career, degree, amount of experience on the topic, et. cetera. Anyone can post information on the Internet, so it is important to check that the author is plausible.
