A recipe for serendipity

Serendipity is delicious at any time of the day. Traditionally thought of as quite tricky to create, with some thorough practice and preparation, you too can ensure that your recipe goes right every time and that you maximise its results.

Time to prepare: as long as it takes
Makes enough for: 1 (recipe easily doubled)

Ingredients
1 mind (already opened)
1 bunch of ideas (preferably homegrown)
1 handful of friends (from diverse groups)
1 event

Equipment
1 serendipity engine (can be substituted by your preferred social network)

Method

Step 1: Decide to organise an event around something you love: blogging, travelling, entrepreneurship, etc. Do not necessarily aim to create a large one; a small meetup in a coffee shop or local park will do. Add a bunch of ideas to the mixing bowl.

Step 2: Add a couple of your friends from your handful into the mixing bowl with the ideas. Leave to rise overnight.

Step 3: When you return to the mixing bowl, your ideas should have risen into something firmer to the touch. Turn this mixture out onto a floured surface and start to mould the ideas into a tangible serendipitous event.

Step 4: Time to put this event into the serendipity engine. Ask the friends remaining from your handful to promote the event and to invite their friends and friends of friends and even cousins of friends of friends. Leave the event in the serendipity engine until golden, but make sure that it isn’t overcooked.

Step 5: Remove the event from the serendipity engine and invite everyone to come and hang out and savour it.

Step 6: Use your ready-opened mind: you never know what the serendipity might taste like or what you might encounter. Add a dash of introductions or a pinch of discussions to season according to taste.

Note: for future serendipitous events, analyse what could have made your event taste even more serendipitous and adjust accordingly.
