RE: PROJECT chicaGO: Sawada Coffee

thoroughness & comprehension (plus) • creativity (plus++++) • use of platform (plus)

wow, jo! this is a personal letter that allows you room as a creative soul, and shatters the stylistic monotony in project chicaGO.

i love the concept of this, from beginning to end. the idea of writing letters is a nostalgic notion, and to bring this to an online publication is an innovative and creative move.

the narrative of this flows, you have a purpose, and a story arch that allows you to interact with many different styles of writing (reminiscing, description, and personal reflection.) the format of this is great. there’s nothing more personal than a letter. your choices are deliberate, and stronggggg. this personification of the latte is genius. period.

i love that it’s written like a real letter: there’s an initial intent, you drift off, and get back to your point. you use the creative tone to critique the establishment and fare, but your honesty seems longing and intimate.

the photos, the title, and the links all work perfectly, and are consistent with your larger project!

my only bold critique is the blips in creative/descriptive writing. there are sections/phrases/words where your word choice is unclear, doesn’t make sense, is phrased oddly, or clunky, and unfortunately distracts from this wonderful narrative you have spun together! i’ve highlighted them, so you know what i mean. with creative writing, it can take more editing that us journalists are used to, and finding or removing the right word can be even MORE difficult.

all in all, this is a fantastic piece that i’m honored you shared with us.
