I think you make some really good points, I like what you said about your first quotation and how the high school example translates to social media. I’ve also been guilty of catering to my audience on social media. I think this is something that the environment of social media lends itself to due to the digital currency of likes, retweets, favorites, etc. I know I see a lot of people around me who will carefully consider how to word a post or edit a photo and then end up not posting it or posting and deleting it due to this self consciousness. This search for approval and validation can, in my opinion, contribute to the isolation you mention.
