Adelina Goddess of the sea
Adelina was the Goddess of the sea. She lived in a big castle in the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It is located off of the coast of Australia. It is made up of over 600 types of hard and soft coral and, it’s home to countless species of colourful fish, molluscs, starfish, turtles, dolphins and sharks.
Adelina had vibrant auburn hair and crisp blue eyes. She was often swimming around with all her many friends and going on many deep sea adventures. Adelina often found strange objects close to the top of the sea, they were very unusual. There were large pieces of plastic with holes in them that fish would try and swim through, and large sharp shards of metal floating around in the water. Adelina didn’t know what it was but she knew it couldn’t be good.
A little boy was walking along the beach one dreary morning. The mist and fog of the morning hung heavy over the beach, clouding it in a light grey. He came across a tin pop can close to the foamy shore. He picked it up and threw it into the overflowing trash can about five feet away. He watched in sadness as the dark waves brought in more and more wet trash. A magazine here, an old burger wrapper there. As he walked home he thought about all the trash along the rest of the beach and couldn’t believe how dirty it was.
Back in the Great Barrier Reef, Adelina was standing on her balcony looking out towards the many colorful sea creatures scurrying around outside the castle, there were many sparkling fish, cheerful dolphins and shimmering turtles. Her friend the Starfish, came over rushing to tell her something that seemed very important. “Adelina! There is something foul coming in from land! You must do something about it!”
Adelina breathlessly swam up to the shore and could not believe what she was seeing. The whole beach was covered in trash, and mud, and it was leaking into the Great Barrier Reef. The stench was absolutely horrid! It reeked of rotting fish and old trash. All the muck from the water was making her crystal blue eyes burn. She had to do something quickly!
Adelina was looking out towards the beach trying to think of a solution when she spotted the little boy walking along the beach. Maybe he could help her! “Little boy please help me!” She called out. The little boy came running up to the edge of the sea. “What’s wrong?” He curiously asked. “I live down below in the Great Barrier Reef and all this trash and icky mud is coming down into my kingdom and it is making my friends sick! You have to help me, please!” She begged. The little boy thought about it and agreed.
That night the little boy was thinking of many way that he could help the Goddess, but none of them were the right ones. He wanted the beach to be clean and free of trash so people could jump around in the sand and splash in the water without the fear of pieces of glass pricking them. As he fell asleep he came up with the most brilliant idea in the world.
The next morning the little boy gathered up all his friends. They walked briskly down to the beach with rakes and pails in tow. They were ready to clean the beach up, and keep it tidy for everyone to use. They cleaned and cleaned until the beach was spotless.
Adelina and the sea creatures forever favored the little boy and his amazing friends for making the beach beautiful again. It was an amazing sight to see!
That is why the Great Barrier Reef is so beautiful, an amazing sight in the world, and one of the Seven Wonders Of Nature. We should always continue to keep it clean and free of trash to preserve it for many, many more years to come.
