We should have this option a lot higher on our lists. We are often too afraid of killing our darlings. Even if data shows us we should. It’s hard to work against arguments like:
- Users say they want it
- We invested a lot of money into it
- And, most importantly, the client, boss, or hippo thinks it’s the greatest feature
Though a modern approach to Android is to go to SVGs, and skip pixel hell completely. Incidentally, you can use SVGs for modern web (with appropriate fallback for older browsers) and Windows UWP development. Left in pixel darkness is Apple ☺. Though you still have to select l 1x and pixel alignment for crispness and sizing of SVGs but at least you don’t have to produce tons of PNGs anymore.
