Is it wrong to let someone be executed if you can stop it?

It’s interesting to hear people discuss how unethical the death penalty is, but personally I think what’s far more unethical is sending people to prisons where inmates will often be tortured and raped for the rest of their lives.

Death, I’m sure, is a mercy when facing that alternative. But does anyone question if our method of execution could be less painful?

For example, could humans be given anesthesia to death until they fall asleep and their hearts simply stop? Sounds like it’s better than what they do now. Lethal injection sounds scary as hell. Better hope that iv doesn’t blow.
