Finding New Clients

If you’re developing a freelance gig into a business, it’s important to gain new business and clients. Businesses require more finance to run and they can’t grow without new customers. Freelance clients are often acquired at a slower pace — so how do you actively search for and secure new clients? Here are some ideas.
- Network. Go to trade shows or markets — it all depends on what your business is — to show off what you can do to passerby who might be interested in your services. Conferences for particular fields you have specialties in is also a good idea. It might also be a good idea to hand out extra cards to existing clients who are happy with your work — they might consider recommending you if you put the idea in their head. You can even offer a discount on their next purchase if they are able to get a new client in your direction.
- Expand your demographic. Adjust your image a little — maybe freshen up your website to appeal to a younger crowd or offer another service that might fill the need for clients who aren’t already choosing you.
- Partnerships. Partnerships with related — but non-competing — businesses can be mutually beneficial, introducing both companies to the others’ client base. For example, if you are a web developer, partner with a graphic designer with an already established business. You can also partner with charities — not only will it expose you to a new demographic, but it will encourage them to associate positive things with your company and perceive you as supporting their community.
- Dust off the marketing strategy. Especially in digital marketing, there are new methods all the time. It may be worth revisiting to see if there are new ways to optimize your position in search engine results or update your Facebook ads.
