Marketing your business may seem like an overwhelming prospect. There are so many options and outlets — should you pay for internet ads? Should you take out ads in a local paper? What should your web presence look like? Should you go to local festivals and markets? All of this depends upon what your business is and what your target market looks like. Here are a few basic options that are available to any business.
- Website: A website is a really important and easy way to make information about your business easily accessible. It will really help customers make decisions and be able to compare your company to others. It will also be a way for customers to discover your business in the first place — websites can link to google map listings, etc. It can also be placed on bumper stickers and signs. If you do decide to have internet ads, then it will be a way for customers to find out more about your company.
- Social media: Facebook and Instagram — and even Twitter, depending on the business — can be a great way to engage customers and let them know about updates in your business, whether it’s an event, a new product, or a sale. If you have a really engaging social media presence, it can even draw in new customers — or if you’re lucky — go viral on the web. Social media platforms also have options for paid advertising. This can be effective because it is highly customizable to your audience and demographic. A lot of people see results from these ads.
- Print media: print media is trickier. It can really depend on your business and demographic how useful it is. Of course, things like brochures and business cards to hand out to people who stop in the store or see you at a market are basic items to have on hand. But newspaper ads and posted flyers can vary in effectiveness.
