Origins of the Famous “Confused Nick Young” Meme
Do you ever need a meme to relate to when it’s your day off but your manager calls you in to pick up a shift? How about when someone says they’ll meet you in 5 minutes but end up showing up an hour later? The perfect meme for these situations is my favourite meme, the famous “confused Nick Young” meme.
Origin
To start out, Nick Young is a player in the NBA that currently plays for the Golden State Warriors. While his job is to make buckets on the basketball court, he has made quite a few mistakes, like the one below, that has made him an interesting character in the league.
In 2014, Nick Young’s facial expression became a meme. In a YouTube web series called “Thru The Lens” which followed a day in his life, the meme was captured after his mother claimed he was a clown growing up.

From there, the meme took off with the addition of captions relatable to mostly teens and it became one of most famous memes. Here are some examples of it being used.

This meme is still among the popular with continued searches on Google of “Nick Young meme” and “confused Nick Young.”
The spike seen above occurred on January 2017 when we were able to ultimately see Nick Young’s reaction to his own meme.
