It’s not catastrophic, but I think you will end up paying more money than you would have for Apple Pay, to gain the same thing being first with Apple Pay would have given you.

The pattern was very similar here in the UK, only three banks at launch with more creeping in over time.

I get the feeling that once the market has launched, Apple is more comfortable letting opinion pieces such as yours pressure the banks rather than negotiate hard.

Barclays that had put a heavy amount of effort into NFC payments (who went as far as selling bracelets with the chips in) was one of the last holdouts and even they succumbed to the pressure.

Maybe that speculated 0.15% transaction cost is valuable to them.
