I have posted quite a few blogs comparing two chipsets. Today, I thought I will take it up a notch and compare three processors very briefly.

In terms of comparisons between processors, it is important to establish whether the comparison is amongst similar levels of processors or various different levels. In this case, Helio P70 is mid to budget range processor, Snapdragon 845 is a high-end processor and Kirin 970 is a mid-range processor. There is a distinct difference between them in this regard, especially with the Snapdragon processor.

Snapdragon 845 was announced in December 2017 and has been integrated with numerous devices like Samsung Galaxy S9, Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus.etc among others. MediaTek Helio P70, on the other hand, was announced in 2018 and was released with devices like Oppo F11, Oppo F15, Realme 3.etc. Kirin 970 was released in October 2017 and has been released with Huawei Honor 10 and Huawei P20 Pro amongst others.

In terms of CPU and GPU speed, MediaTek Helio P70 has dual CPUs — 4X Arm Cortex-A73@2.1GHz and 4X Arm Cortex-A53@2.0 GHz. It is an octa-core chipset. It has an Arm Mali G72 MP3 GPU and has a max frequency of 900 MHz.

Snapdragon 845, on the other hand, has 4X Kyro 385 Gold clocked @2.8GHz 4X Kryo 385Silver clocked@1.70GHz. It is an Octa-core chipset and has an Adreno 630 GPU and has a frequency of 630 MHz.

Kirin 970’s CPU consists of 4X A-73 clocked @2.3 GHz and 4x A-53 clocked @1.83 GHz. It is an octa-core chipset that has ARM Mali G72 MP12 GPU with a frequency of 746 MHz.

The clear winner in this regard is the Helio P70 in terms of CPU speed as well as GPU frequency speed by a considerable margin.

Even in terms of RAM speed, Snapdragon 845 and Helio P70 are similar with 1866 MHz speed each. Kirin 970 has a speed of 1833 MHz which is a negligible difference.

So, in my opinion, despite the difference in terms of range (mentioned above) Helio P70 can definitely give Snapdragon 845 and Kirin 970 a tough competition. I will put Helio P70 and Snapdragon 845 as a close first with Kirin 970 following them at a negligible difference. I don’t think users will find much difference between them in terms of usage because all of them are decent and good processors.
