My Ode to Running
What did you gain from running?, they asked
What did I ever lose from running?, I asked back.
Do you think you are too young to run?, they asked.
I would love to grow older with running, I said
Is it safe to run so early in the morning?, they asked.
Step out to see who is the majority, I said
Aren’t you losing out on precious sleep?, they asked.
Not as much as you are losing out on the perks of running, I said.
You are leaving your child at home to run on the streets?, they asked
She will soon join me on the tracks, I said.
Do you know that someday your knees will give in?, they asked
But I will never give up, I said.
Didn’t you know that vegetarians shouldn’t run?, they asked
Running has made me more aware of my protein intake, I said.
Are you dreaming that you will lose weight by running?, they asked
Running has saved me from losing my mind, I said
Do you think you can save the world by running?, they asked.
Running has changed me and also helped me change a few lives, I said.
Don’t you know there are more important things to do in life?, they asked
Running gives me the energy and focus to prioritize things each and everyday, I said
Finally, people will disown you if you keep running like this, they said.
Nobody else but i, OWN MYSELF, I replied… and attitude courtesy: One year of running!
I was introduced to running in June 2017. As I celebrate my one year of running, I recall how I used to be miles away from sports activity as a school student and how much I have progressed in this one year journey. Dedicating these lines I wrote, to all those who have leapt through hard criticisms when they took up running.
Big thanks and shout out to everyone who guided me on how to start running, the apps that I can use to train, to those who pushed me to touch milestones and much more!!! There is more to come.. and this is just the beginning!
