South Carolina is ranked 49th in the country for working moms. South Carolina’s lack of access to quality maternal health care is pervasive. The Palmetto State ranks eighth in highest death rates among new mothers

When we lift women up, our communities thrive. Today, I’m so honored to announce that I’ve been endorsed by more than 60 strong, inspiring, women leaders here in South Carolina. We also have more than 700 women engaged on our “Women for Jaime” online community. (Join us!)

We’re in this fight together, and we’re not going to stop until we get it done.

I grew up in a household where a missed day of work meant bills were not paid, I’ve lived through the stress that confronts many South Carolina families. No parent should have to choose between their job and caring for their child, and no person should miss valuable moments with their loved ones because of work.

South Carolina has no guarantee of paid maternity leave for soon-to-be mothers and some of South Carolina’s congressional leaders have trampled upon women’s reproductive rights, denied women the ability to access quality and affordable health care, and have repeatedly voted against equal pay legislation.

I will fight for universal healthcare so women and their families can access the health care they need. I will also work to ensure the Violence Against Women Act is reauthorized protecting women and children. I’m proud to be an unwavering ally in this fight for equality and justice for all.
