Being an Anomaly: How digital media changed my life

I was always the outcast at school. Never really knew where to fit in. It didn’t help that I was bullied because of my size. But like most 13-year-old kids I resulted to a computer to satisfy my needs.

I Started researching about entrepreneurship. Luckily being a business man was in my DNA, practically my entire ancestry where business people. Steve Jobs inspired me to think differently and strive for greatness in all of its forms. I took this on-board and got to work.

Fast-track to the age of 18. I sort of flunked away my senior education, I spent most of it gaming and dreaming about the life I would have, if I made it. Instead of taking the initiative for myself, I stayed dreaming. But I digress, I was willing to make a change. I stopped dreaming and started doing, this is when my life turned around.

Digital Business is something that is constantly changing, but at the time I wasn’t willing to put in the effort, because there were lots of other things I wanted to do. Now I’m building an online empire trying to change the world, creating a platform for others, rather than trying to become one of those Social Media Superstars.

I enrolled in the Digital Marketing Nanodegree program because I wanted to learn about digital marketing, properly. This would mean I wouldn’t have to hire anyone to do the work for me. Udacity is all online, which was ideal for the situation I was in. They provide an intuitive working environment & collaborate community space to voice any of your concerns. Through real-world projects you are able to learn industry standard skills. I am really enjoying it and I am learning a lot of new concepts and ideas. Digital Marketing is the future, and you may as well hop on the band wagon now. But I will never forget this one paragraph that changed my life.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
