Fuck you, with love.

Good, passionate writing, Kim, and I encourage you to keep being this open and honest in what you write. Although, I have to say (sorry) that if one steps back from teenage feelings of having been repressed and silenced, the view reveals good reasons for discouraging what’s generally referred to as “cursing”.

As a writer, and an excellent one at that, you must appreciate that “fuck you” is a sadly blunt and dull (i.e., uninteresting) way to express oneself. It lacks any meaning beyond, “I’m very pissed.” So what? Why should I care?

Like the outstanding writer you are, you expressed yourself very well all around the “fuck” this and “fuck” that. But that word itself, at least when peppered all over such a short piece like this, becomes just an ugly hiccup. What’s more, I’ve never understood why people use a word for something that, in any context other than rape, coerced prostitution or any other sort of physical or mental abuse, refers to an act of pleasure, and often enough, love.

Whether or not you buy my argument so far, you can’t possibly contest the fact that emotionally powerful words lose their power when overused. I would go so far as to assert that the only power “taboo” words have comes from not just being taboo, but actually being treated as such. Think about how vapid and quickly-to-become-annoying it is when one uses exclamation points the way some people use “fuck”!!!!!

I have a sad feeling that few, if any, readers will take my comments seriously. Oh, well…fuck it.
