Thanks for sharing your thoughts. For some time, I’ve been contemplating the ethics of the “Rise of the Robots”, in other words, while we are on the verge of automating alrge sectors of the labor market, what are the consequences for society, and what are the ethical duties of those causing disruption?
On one hand, AV will radically change transportation on all levels, and tens of millions of jobs, from drivers to insurers to mechanics to parking attendants (and many others) will become obsolete.
On the other, gains in efficiencies may be essential to solving global warming. We will need far less fuel, vehicles, etc. to move people and things, and we will be able to do so in a safer and more cost effective way than car ownership allows.
So do the gains outweigh the consequences? Perhaps, but that doesn’t free those of us hoping to benefit from the rise of AV’s to the losses to be had by millions of workers…
Thoughts?
