What is Gender Equality, ultimately?

When you hear the word ‘Equality’, the first that comes to your mind is most probably a picture of a feminist protest fighting for equal rights for women. This is the perception we have when we talk about Equality. We straight up assume that indifference and inequality exist primarily in terms of race and gender. And that’s not wrong. But what is wrong is that people assume that it’s *always* men who do it. Yes, men are guilty for rapes. But not all men. Yes, women are genuinely struggling for their equal status in society. But not all of them. We need to understand what these radical, pseudo feminists are demanding. They are obviously not demanding equality. They are demanding equity. Now, if this had been the case back when men were the only ones occupying the world’s hierarchy system, this demand would have been appropriate. But now, with so many programmes already running in various parts of the world to promote and empower women growth and development, what we need is equality. Not equity. Already, women have been given more support than ever by the world. So much, in fact, that the world has forgotten that men also do have a heart and that not all men are monsters, waiting for a vulnerable prey to feed on in the middle of the night. Not all men are guilty. Yes, special care for women is necessary and making them a priority is important too. But what if they start misusing them to their advantage everywhere? This is already in many parts of the world where some women misuse their rights for harassing men or getting them in jail for crimes they never even committed. This is not the case for all women, just like not every man is a rapist. Self defense is one thing, but pepper spraying someone in the public without knowing their intent is another. Treating a girl in your family like a queen and a boy like a servant is not healthy for his mental health. And so is the vice versa. What we need to understand is that the men who have caused women to become so uncomfortable that they have to step out everyday to fight for their equality and safety are the ones who we need to fight. Because in this chaos, there are some pseudo feminists too who will try to get some benefit of this whole situation and make the whole male community the villain. If they succeed then one day men will protest too. Then they will become the superior ones again. And this cycle will go until the end of humanity. What we need to understand is that we are all humans at the end. No one is superior and no one is inferior to the other. Women have performed their roles in society and men have performed theirs. If they want to try other responsibilities then why not? Just give them a chance. But don’t just rob one side of its dignity and rights to lift the other up much higher, just for the other ones to feel inferior and fight for their equality and end up forming a loop.
