The Single Best Entrepreneurial Advice
The single best entrepreneurial advice I have got is by my mentor for 6 years and counting, the serial entrepreneur and my go-to elder brother, Ashish Tulsian.
In Aug 2015, when I was struggling solo, after cordially parting ways with my two of the earlier cofounders of the now-shut Flatabout, I called Ashish sir late into the night and declared my concerns about how screwed up my situation was and I was almost on the brink of giving up, unable to seek funding. Ashish sir told me just one line, “Don’t start-up if you are not mentally prepared to bootstrap for at least two years.”
This one line changed the way I thought about funding (or money). From a necessity for entrepreneurial existence (the society had turned it into one), funding’s definition turned into what it actually meant: a fuel for growth. It changed how I saw and treated my entrepreneurial struggle. It was no more a struggle, but a hustle. A way to find novel ways to get things done without spending a dime. The focus went back to a lean team, product and customers — the critical three, and things fell into place automatically. First my college mate Ashish, the tech superman, joined in as Cofounder CTO, then the idea of Whereabout arrived, and now this customer trend (with 83% repeat, touching almost 300 active users today!) has sort of humbled me.

Now, we believe we need a fuel for growth to propel our engine into the sky. :) Make us fly: Whereabout.in/app
