Unlike 2020, 2021 has seen the return of many of the biggest events in the games industry, such as E3 and Gamescom, albeit in digital form. While some events took place last year, many of those that did featured a more relaxed production due to the ongoing pandemic. One such event was the Tokyo Game Show, which featured far fewer major reveals than in previous years. That seems to be changing this year as publishers like Capcom, Square Enix, and Xbox prepare for major introductions.

Sega has now revealed that it plans to reveal a new RPG title in its joint showcase with Atlus at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. While Sega was present at last year’s Tokyo Game Show, the company’s appearance was different from other years due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the gaming industry, not announcing any new titles and in his place hosting a live broadcast of Yakuza: Like a Dragon hosted by some. from the game development team and voice cast.

This year, it looks like Sega is turning things around, as the Tokyo Game Show website has updated its list of live events to highlight the Segas showcase for the event, which will also showcase Atlus titles. In the showcase list it has been revealed that Sega plans to announce a new RPG title at the event. Previously, the TGS 2021 website was found to feature a logo for the 25th anniversary of the Sakura Wars series, one of Sega’s oldest RPG franchises that first launched on the Sega Saturn in 1996. The series was rebooted in 2019 when a new title, Shin Sakura Wars (localized simply as Sakura Wars) was released on the PlayStation 4, which was later released in the west in April 2020.

This most recent installment featured character designs from Bleach manga creator Tite Kubo, with guest designs from Persona character designer Shigenori Soejima and Pokémon artist Ken Sugimori. The game was also created with the Sonic Teams Hedgehog Engine. Given that it has been almost two years since the launch in Japan, and the evidence found on the website, it would not be hard to believe that this is what Sega plans to announce. Another possible announcement is the official unveiling of Atluss ‘long-awaited Project Re Fantasy, the newest title from Persona 3, 4 and 5 director Katsura Hashino, under Atlus’ new in-house team, Studio Zero. Project Re Fantasy was first announced in 2017 as a new PS4 exclusive action RPG, however the team has remained almost silent regarding the development of the games ever since, however, earlier this year. , Atlus confirmed that the development of the games had reached its “climax”. and it implied that the game was nearing development, so even if this isn’t the RPG planned for the Segas event, it might make sense to wait for it at the Tokyo Game Show.
