This is the lake you have to go at least once in your life.

Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake straddled the border between California and Nevada. “Tahoe” means great and huge in Indian languages. It is surrounded by mountains and alpines forests. It was one of the 5 great lakes in US. However, it’s name was remove from the list because it is relatively smaller than “the Greats”.

The time I went to Tahoe was in summer. The lake could totally reflect the color of the blue sky. The lake was extremely blue, which just like a Sapphire is embedded into mountains. And it could be totally black when the storm is coming.

Lake water is pure and sweet. However, the condition is getting worse in decade.the lake is becoming increasingly eutrophic. Local government and relative studies are making great effort to improve this situation. Nevertheless, Everyone can feel free to dive into the lake, because it is still extremely clear.

Plenty of pines surrounded by Tahoe

During late Spring to early Fall, the lake is popular for water sports and beach activities. The two cities most identified with the Lake Tahoe tourist area are South Lake Tahoe (which is the city in California) and the smaller Stateline;

For maximizing the good experience, my suggestion is: booking the hotel near Stateline, where many cheap and cozy casino hotels locates with the extremely convenient transportation. You can go to any state park in about 30 mins; getting up early in the morning and go to the Sand Harbor, where you can enjoy the beach and rent the water sport equipments. Don’t be late! Otherwise, the parking lot will be full very quickly.

If you come to Tahoe in winter for skiing, that will be another story.

Paddling is popular water sport

No matter you go there in Summer or Winter., one thing you can not miss is the hot spring! There is an awesome hot spring spot at Renoa, about 30 minutes drive from Stateline. You can enjoy the hot spring that Mark Twain used to be.
