In person drop is effective way to stand out in the crowd of applicants. To experience this method, I selected an engineering company, Descon. To find out the person working in descon was my first step.

For that, I contacted my closed relatives for couple of days through phone in order to find an employee of that company. Fortunately, I found a contact there at managerial position. His name is babar Naqvi and he is business development Manager at Descon. Though my closed relative, I made an appointment for Wednesday at Descon. Meanwhile, I tailored my resume and Cv for descon.

On Wednesday, I managed to reach before 15 minutes at the company. At reception, I asked for the office of Mr babar. By the company rules, outsiders were only restricted to the entrance waiting areas. So, Receptionist telephoned Mr babar. I took a sigh of relief and recited the elevator pitch in mind. As soon as the Mr babar reaches, My heart started beating too and fro .

Mustering up courage and after exchange of compliments, I introduced myself in elevator pitch style and he nodded when I ended my 55 seconds speech. Then, he had a look on my resume and asked more specifically about the job duties. Meanwhile, an idea clicked on his mind about an ongoing project, where nature of work was close to my job duties. On this note, he told me that he can refer me for that project possibly. He told me email the resume at his email address along with the educational documents.

What I realized from this exercise was very valuable lesson. At first, it seemed difficult to find out reference but after a 2 day search in network, first bottleneck got removed. Next time, Before going to any company, I would research about reference to meet.

Secondly, Mr babar hinted me about the relevant project where my skills might be useful. This could never be achieved if I solely rely on applying online for jobs. So, Getting out of comfort zone and visiting the industry take us very very close to desired job.

Thirdly, a memorized pitch really helped me as it completely answered the question in Mr babar mind.
