Eid-e-Ghadir Khum is a significant event in Shia Islam that commemorates the appointment of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib as the successor to Prophet Muhammad as the leader of the Muslim community. The event took place on the 18th of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar.

According to Shia tradition, on this day in the year 632 CE, Prophet Muhammad delivered a sermon at a place called Ghadir Khum in present-day Saudi Arabia. In this sermon, the Prophet declared Imam Ali as his successor and urged the Muslims to pledge their allegiance to him. The event is seen as a pivotal moment in Shia theology, emphasizing the leadership and authority of Imam Ali and his descendants, known as the Imams, in guiding the Muslim community.

Eid-e-Ghadir Khum is celebrated by Shia Muslims worldwide with gatherings, processions, and religious lectures. It is an occasion to express love and devotion to Imam Ali and to reflect on the significance of his role in Islamic history. The event is considered a reminder of the importance of leadership and the concept of Wilayah (guardianship) in Shia Islam.
