Final Idea+ Recipe: My final cookie idea was the Raspberry Jalapeño Cup Cookie. I chose to do this cookie because it incorporates all the flavors I love. This cookie is a twist on the traditional sweet and salty, it’s sweet and spicy. The sweet tartness of the raspberries contrasts the subtle spice of jalapenos which is cooled down by the nuttyness of peanut butter. The chocolate was added to add some more sweetness and also because who doesn’t love chocolate? I think this is creative because it fuses together very different flavors in a way I have never seen done before and surprisingly, it tastes pretty dang good.

Ingredientes:

1 cup chunky peanut butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp. Vanilla extract

½ jalapeño, chopped up

¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate

1 handful of raspberries (you’ll only need a few)

Directions:

Preheat conventional oven to 350°

Add ingredients into a large mixing bowl

Mix the ingredients to a creamy dough consistency

Should the dough into 1-inch balls

Place them 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet

Gently flatten dough balls

Bake for 15 minutes

Let cool for 10 minutes

Put a raspberry on top

Idea Generation: Coming up with an innovative cookie that varied in form, texture, flavor, and presentation was a challenging task. To begin my brainstorming process I first began to focus on unique ways to present my cookie, or unique form of the cookie. I knew I wanted it to be different than any traditional cookie so I began thinking of anything I could that was unique. Later on, as I brainstormed more, I began to focus less on making my cookie be unique in shape but rather to be unique in flavor. Through the brainstorming process, I realized that I seemed to have a theme of hot and sweet flavors combined which led me to want to test out jalapeño peanut butter cookies. This decision then led me to want to test out an Italian themed cookie which was a combination of bread crumbs and ragu; a little taste of Italy was what I was going for right there.

Idea test 1:

This cookie was inspired by upcoming study abroad trip to Florence Italy. My idea was to create a cookie that was inspired by traditional Italian flavors. To do this I used Italian seasoned bread crumbs and traditional Ragu tomato sauce. I cooked it in the oven at 350° for 10 minutes. They came out to be a very interesting texture, they reminded me of microwavable chicken nuggets. Despite the interesting texture and weird flavor I decided against bringing these cookies into class because honestly they were not the best plus, I was very excited by idea 2.

Recipe:

2 ½ cups of softened butter

1 cup of sugar

2 eggs

¼ cup of milk

½ cup of Ragu tomato sauce

¼ cup of Italian seasoned bread crumbs

4 cups of all-purpose flour

4 teaspoons of baking powder

¼ cup of salt

Idea test 2:

This cookie was inspired by my idea of sriracha and honey cookies because I realized I had jalapenos and wanted to play around with them. So to create this cookie I made a peanut butter cookie dough and mixed in some chopped up some jalapeno. I found that even after baking for 20 minutes the dough still seemed to be very squishy even though the cookies fluffed up in the oven. The cookie was pretty tasty, I was surprised at how well jalapeno and peanut butter went together. Because of this I chose to iterate this type of cookie so I could perfect it and bring out more interesting and unique flavors.

Recipe:

1 cup chunky peanut butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp. Vanilla extract

1 jalapeno, chopped up

Iteration:

For my final version of the Raspberry Jalapeño cup, I did a few things differently than in my Idea 2 test. First of all, I mixed in the chocolate chips to create the peanut butter cup type flavor. This time I also chopped up the jalapenos super small because I figured they release moisture and that was why the cookies were kind of soggy in my idea 1 test. I also added a raspberry on top in the middle of baking the cookies so they raspberry could bring some sweet tartness to the cookie.
