Whether you have Rogers, Bell, Telus and are enjoying the lavish life or if you have Wind mobile aka Freedom Mobile, Koodo, Mobilicity, Public mobile and are still waiting on this page to load on your phone. Internet data can be useful but can destroy your life slowly (literally).

Here are 5 things you didn’t know about your cellular data:

1) Cellular data uses the same network provided by the cell towers that allow you to make phone calls.

Why are you getting capped at a certain amount of data speed, if you already are using the same services to make calls?

2) What does “LTE” mean?

The ITU-R set standards for 4G connectivity in March of 2008, requiring all services described as 4G to adhere to a set of speed and connection standards. For mobile use, including smartphones and tablets, connection speeds need to have a peak of at least 100 megabits per second, and for more stationary uses such as mobile hotspots, at least 1 gigabit per second.

But since these speeds were hard to get to, no carrier could promise these speeds and therefore the term “LTE” or Long Term Evolution started being used in the tech world. Some carriers promoted their connectivity as 4G LTE stating its faster than regular LTE.

Went 2 Gigs over my data last month. Fuck.

3) Enabling LTE provides better call quality overall.

Enabling LTE more specifically on Iphone allows for better call quality. For some reason, Rogers to Rogers calling on Iphone sounds crystal clear.

Paying for overage charges is fucking ridiculous, it doesn’t cost them that much.
