I’d disagree with you here. If you’re doing web programming, then you only need two programs — a web browser, and a text editor. Neither of these should stop working on less than 4GB.

This is analysis that may be off, but even if you were to load your whole browser application AND any resource you were to download from the web straight to the RAM and run everything from there, provided you didn’t have a million tabs open (and stuck to things like StackOverflow and kept off YouTube) I can’t see memory usage being so extreme so as to choke 2 or 3 GB of RAM.
