Hi. We’re Hassan S. Ali and Johnross Post.

As creatives in advertising, we’ve always wanted to create an ad campaign for a fragrance brand. They’re just so weird and bizarre and off-the-wall.

So we figured, why not just make our own fragrance? And why not call it Validation, a humorous nod to the constant rejection we face in our jobs as advertising creatives?

We shared the idea with friends in media, tech, and the arts, and realized it was super relatable for others, too.

Three months later, we’re here to announce the release of:

Validation, a new unisex fragrance for the overworked and underappreciated.


So what is Validation, exactly?

Validation is a unisex eau-de-parfum fragrance for the overworked and underappreciated. Perfect for those in creative, tech, and advertising fields.

But for real… How does it smell?

While rooted in humor, the fragrance legit smells amazing. (In other words, it’s not a gag gift that smells like farts or something).

Our exclusive blend features refreshing citrus-y top notes with base notes of oud wood. The scent is comparable to any designer fragrance.

Also, it’s unisex, so it perfectly toes the line between cologne and perfume.

Why Make This?

It started out as a joke. We just wanted to parody fragrance ads. But then we accidentally created a legitimately great-smelling fragrance and were like, Shit, might as well go all the way with this.

Plus, for many of us, actual validation is sooo hard to come by. Our efforts aren’t appreciated the way we want. We spend weekends working overtime, only to get passed over for a promotion. That huge Medium post we’re so proud of writing only gets six “likes.”

Now, all you need to do is reach into your drawer, pull out a bottle of refreshing Validation, and get your desperate need for approval fulfilled with a single spray. Not to mention, you’ll smell great afterwards!

And fashion badass and Instagram superstar Gabi Gregg (@ gabifresh). We’ve wanted to collaborate for awhile now, and finally made it happen with Validation. Gabi’s style and sense of humor were a perfect match for this, and I hope it’s the first of more collabs.

Unisex Fragrance + Aromatherapy Benefits

We worked with a veteran Chicago aromatherapist to develop this fragrance. For starters, we wanted a unisex scent; after all, Validation is for everyone. We wanted to challenge traditional binary “cologne is for men / perfume is for women” gender norms. It’s 2017, people!

Also might be why unisex fragrances are gaining in popularity.

Additionally, most of the ingredients have aromatherapy benefits. For instance, bergamot and grapefruit are mood boosters that may help you feel a little more validated. (That said, this product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Do we look like doctors to you?)

Now What?

Ultimately, we’d love to see a bottle of Validation in every creative agency, newsroom, startup, TV writers room, and coworking space in America. This doesn’t seem like an unreasonable goal.
