The first step when using Hatch App is to create a new bird type. In this tutorial we will show you how to do it and what to enter in every field.

Description of fields

Name: Enter the name of the bird type you want to create.

Latin name (optional): The official latin name of the species.

Incubation duration: Average duration (in days) of eggs of this bird species from the start of incubation till hatching.

Days till pip: Average duration (in days) of eggs of this bird species from incubation start to pipping the egg shell. For this duration, the weight loss will be calculated.

Weight loss till pip: How much of the initial weight should the egg loose (in percent) until pipping of the egg shell.

Example: If you have a bird with a fresh egg weight of 30 gram and 30 days till pip with a weight loss of 15%, this means your egg should weight 25.5 gram after 30 days.

Weight loss tolerance: How much deviation (in percent) should be tolerated until the App shows a warning. Warning are continuously shown if the weight is higher or lower than the tolerance.

The dotted lines are the minimum and maximum tolerance, the current weight should be within these

Days till pip warning: After how many days should the App show a warning that the egg of this type should pip soon.

Example of a “should pip soon” warning in bird overview

Days till ring warning: After how many days should the App show a warning that the hatched chick of this bird type should be ringed soon.
